Electrostatic Disinfection: Your Questions Answered

Electrostatic Disinfection Q&A

Why use a disinfectant? Isn't a thorough clean enough?

Routine cleaning is, of course, essential and must be carried out regularly to keep premises fit for use. On its own, though, it isn't enough to tackle viruses such as Covid. Standard anti-bacterial sprays help, but even when surfaces look clean afterwards they often aren't, because such sprays can't effectively reach every area. We apply a high-level disinfectant that our electrostatic equipment spreads evenly to cover all areas, eliminating up to 99.999% of germs and disease-causing pathogens and micro-organisms on hard, non-porous surfaces and objects.

Is the process safe?

Yes, it is entirely safe. The disinfectant (made by Sychem), which is diluted with water, is non-toxic and non-hazardous and meets British and European Standards. Boeing tested the disinfectant on their aircraft, and the results showed no harmful effects on aluminium, plastics, metallics, floors or fabrics.

How does the equipment work?

The cordless machine gives the disinfectant molecules a positive charge before they are sprayed onto the surface. This draws the molecules to the surface and pushes them apart from one another, forming an even coating and driving the disinfectant into recessed areas. The process mechanically kills micro-organisms and inhibits their growth for up to 30 days - depending on the nature of the premises - providing 99.999% protection against harmful viruses and bacteria.

How frequently should premises be misted?

For our existing commercial customers, this depends on the level of footfall. Some are misted weekly or fortnightly, while others request the service several times a week. Homeowners tend to have their properties misted before and after get-togethers and events.

How is this different from fogging?

Yes. Unlike fogging, the electrostatic process makes sure the spray is evenly distributed and clings to vertical surfaces and the undersides of furniture, giving greater protection.

How soon can the room be used again?

The room or rooms can be used again within an hour of the process, which gives the disinfectant enough time to get to work. For commercial premises, we usually carry out the service during weekday evenings or early mornings - and at weekends - when the premises are closed to staff or customers. For homeowners, we will arrange a time that suits you.

Could it damage valuables?

The spray will not damage fabrics or carpets. You may still wish to remove or cover items such as paintings for peace of mind, though the process is unlikely to cause any harm.

Is it harmful to pets?

No, the process will not harm pets, but you are advised to remove all pets from the room before the misting takes place and not return them until an hour after it is completed.

How soon can you carry out the work?

We aim to carry out the work as quickly as possible, though this depends on factors such as the level of information you provide, the size of the premises and the location.
